Fun Film History

Welcome to another Fun Film History session here at Preppy Beach Chic!
Lets take a look at German Expressionism film! German Expressionism refers to a number of related creative movements beginning in Germany before the First World War that reached a peak in Berlin, during the 1920s. During this time, Nosferatu (F.W. Murnau, 1922), was produced. This is considered the first horror film and the first vampire film. The film is an adaption of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Another powerful film from the German Expressionist period is Battleship Potemkin (Sergei, Eisenstein, 1925.) This film features the infamous Odessa step sequence, where the baby carriage falls down the steps as many are trampled. This scene has been immortalized with homage to the step squenence in films such as The Godfather and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Enjoy this clip of the Odessa stair sequence!

Stage Ready!

Hey everyone!
I am getting ready for the stage. I have successfully been on maintenance for 2 weeks and have not gained anything back, but because I will be front and center for Sing and spring break is right around the corner, I will be back dieting for two weeks in hopes to lose 5 more pounds. I am currently taking Zumba twice a week and a step class once a week.
To also get ready for the stage tanning is taking place. I always feel so bad going to the tanning beds but I try to only use them at this time of the year. My skin takes the sun or artificial uv lights very well, so I shouldn't have to go that much, but boy did I get white this winter. I am also using a tinted moisturizer to help as well.
Singing on stage everyone is looking at your mouth... So teeth whitening is definitely on my list on things to do. I have a good whitening system from my dentist, but time to kick it up a notch and really get my teeth sparkling.
My first performance is Feb. 18, but dress rehearsal is the 17th so highlights and nails will need to be before then. I will also be exfoliating my face every night, then Kiehls wash, and Proactive toner. This mix of products seems to work well for me.
Well I am off to Founder's Day so I need to jump in the shower, and through on a cute outfit!
Love you all!

PS- Do you have any tips for me on getting stage ready... I would love to hear them!

Fun Film History

Welcome to my first Fun Film History!
My goal is to provide a BRIEF yet interesting snip-it of film history to my readers.
We all go to the movies and it is nice to pay respect to the forefather's of film.

Today we are looking at Georges Méliès.
AKA the Father of Special Effects and sometimes referred to as the Cinemagician. This French filmmaker of the 1890's created the dissolve and stop motion effects. He was a stage magician and brought magic to the film world, where he starred in most of his own films. His most famous include "The Untamable Whiskers" and "A Trip to the Moon." Enjoy!

This Semester:

So just so you all know what I am tweeting/blogging about. Here is the run down of my classes this semester:
  • Spanish 1402- I go everyday, it gets tedious, but going to Argentina this summer will be so worth it.
  • Production Methods II- Film class where we generally make media. Lighting projects, audio projects, and a chase scene at the end of the semester. Not hard, but very time consuming. I love that this is a creative outlet for me!
  • Writing for Media Markets- Journalism class focusing on all types of real world business and media journalism.
  • History of Motion Pictures- Film class where... well the name says it all... involves a four hour screening every Wednesday night that I usually bitch tweet about.
I am also going to be adding in a weekly History of Motion Pictures post to prove to myself that this stuff can be fun and interesting, and that my professor needs some definite glitter in his life!

Hope for Haiti

Rightfully so, the number one song on iTunes is Hallelujah. 100% of the proceeds for this song go to Hope for Haiti! It is a beautiful song by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris. The song is available for $.99 and the cd for $7. This is a great way for college students to help support Haiti, everyone can give $1 and each one of them helps.

Say A Little Prayer for Me!

My Baylor in New York application has been submitted. If chosen I will spend a semester in NYC, interning and taking classes at NYU. I will get to live in the old St. George Hotel that has been turned into NYU dorms. I am hoping to intern with a network or a public relations firm. Aside from interning and class, I will get to live and play in NYC for a whole semester. This is a once and a lifetime opportunity that I hope I get! So think of me and my dreams of "The City!"

Winter Blues Need To Go

Preppy Beach Chic has got the winter blues!
BAD!I always get them so if you have them too here are some tips I made up and some I found.
  1. Exercise- This one is from the professionals. It boosts endorphins, but I say work out to look good in that bikini! It is like physical training for warmer weather.
  2. Listen To Your Beach Jams- Bob Marley, Sublime, JIMMY BUFFETT, what ever makes you happy and think of the beach!
  3. Get Some More Sun- Up your vitamin D through light exposure. Either spend more time outside (like the pros say) or hit a tanning bed, but don't go crazy, skin cancer isn't sexy
  4. Wear Bright Colors- Lilly just says summer, or just go shop in a Lilly store
  5. Read Beach Books- You know you have them! I am reading A Salty Piece of Land by Jimmy Buffett
  6. Plan a Vacation- Spring Break in Florida 2010!!!
  7. Smell Like Summer- Light citrus candles, wear Lilly perfume
Well Preppy Beach Chic is off to the tanning bed, then to yoga, and maybe some retail therapy in between... Oh how I miss summer

Starting off on the right foot!

So I am moving and a grooving on my New Years Resolutions this year. Speaking of which here is a picture from New Years Eve with some of my old high school friends. Of course I am the blonde in purple. We had so much fun together that night!
But as my resolutions go I decided to take one of them... inspire creativity and make my resolutions in a non traditional way. It is all a mirror image but I made them into a flower with each resolution as a petal. The final list was: Love others, Live Your Dreams, Desire More, Keep It Creative, Style it Up, Live Glamorously, Love the Lord Your God, Nurture Your Mind, Be Bold, and Respect Your Health. Each petal has smaller things around it as more specific examples. So what have I done so far: I have exercised and eaten on my plan, written all my syllabi into my Lilly planner, read a chapter in a non school book every night, found a yoga class in Waco, and bought a journal to encourage my daily writing.

In other worlds my first day of classes and work went great, and I will be selecting the winner of my giveaway very soon!!
Oh and it is official PBC has 3 solos in Sing!

2010 Resolutions

Welcome 2010 and welcome to my New Years Resolutions Post! I was very determined to go into 2010 with everything right and well, I did. I weigh my high school weight, everything is organized, I have a job, and a David Yurman... life seems to be going in the right direction this decade. So here is how I can improve even more:
  1. Stay Organized- I did the leg work now I need to keep it up. Staying organized means a clear head, and a clean room,. Everything looks better clean.
  2. Keep healthy- I really want to lose 5-10 more pounds and exercise more to keep it up. I got so many compliments this break and they we so encouraging.
  3. Live Glamorously- This is probably my most favorite. I want to sleep in fashionable sleepware with an eye mask, light candles, take bubble baths, and have fresh flowers to add touches of femininity to my everyday life.
  4. Financial Management- Time to be an adult and manage my money. Budgeting for travel, and saving for things I truly want!
  5. Grow and have a direction with my blog.
  6. Start to create a space to live that I truly love! Decorating has become a new passion of mine and you will start to see a lot more of it on the blog!
  7. Read more for pleasure and keep up with the news!
