The Social Network

If you have not seen this yet than what are you waiting for. It really is good. I think it is really interesting because I was in the start up of Facebook when you had to have an .edu email and I got invited from a friend at SMU. It can span all generations and different age groups view it differently. It was really interesting, well written, well made, and very enjoyable.

Life As we Know It

Well this movie is good and very enjoyable, but left me feeling a bit blah and unsure of what emotion I should feel upon leaving. It will make you cry and it will make you laugh, but most of all it is the best chick flick available right now so check it out! Plus it has man candy and Katherine Heigl.

RED

OMG I loved it. Well please note I love action movies but this one was great. Pure entertainment. I am a firm believer that not every movie has to change your life or create some elaborate work of art, some exist simply to give you enjoyment, and this is one of those films. Old men kicking butt all with an entangled love story and scandal... oh yeah!

Fun Film History and Chick Lit

So my life crossed paths this week in a very fun and cute way. I am currently listening to on CD Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella. I love books on cd for the long drives mommy and I make, but during this busy time of my life it is a nice brain break to just sit back and listen. Also, they are great for multi-tasking!
This book is about a 20-something girl being visited by the ghost of her great aunt as a 20-something girl for the 1902's! Very cute and fun so far...
So how did my life cross paths?
Last night in History of Motion Pictures we watched Manslaughter. This tells the story of a young heiress in the 1920's as she drinks and parties and accidentally kills a cop in a car wreck. The man who loves her is the D.A. and he prosecutes against her, sending her to prison. In prison she becomes a good woman and he becomes an alcoholic. Then she gets out and saves him, because he saved her. Actually very entertaining! Well Lydia, the heiress, totally reminded me of Sadie, the ghost in Twenties Girl!

Fun Film History

The independent movie companies moved out to Hollywood from 1907-1913 because of the weather, and cheaper labor. These independent companies are the big players today such as MGM, Paramount Pictures, and Universal Pictures, to name a few. In Hollywood film took off, and in 1912 Thomas Ince developed the Studio System.
In the 1920's Hollywood became scandalous and movies became morally risque. So movies like Manslaughter (1922, DeMille) came out, provided the risque material the public loved but wrapping it up with a good moral message. Think 50 minutes of scandal followed by 10 minutes of morality, and the film studios were good!

Welcome to another Fun Film History session here at Preppy Beach Chic!

Lets take a look at German Expressionism film! German Expressionism refers to a number of related creative movements beginning in Germany before the First World War that reached a peak in Berlin, during the 1920s. During this time, Nosferatu (F.W. Murnau, 1922), was produced. This is considered the first horror film and the first vampire film. The film is an adaption of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Another powerful film from the German Expressionist period is Battleship Potemkin (Sergei, Eisenstein, 1925.) This film features the infamous Odessa step sequence, where the baby carriage falls down the steps as many are trampled. This scene has been immortalized with homage to the step squenence in films such as The Godfather and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Enjoy this clip of the Odessa stair sequence!

Fun Film History

Welcome to my first Fun Film History!
My goal is to provide a BRIEF yet interesting snip-it of film history to my readers.
We all go to the movies and it is nice to pay respect to the forefather's of film.

Today we are looking at Georges Méliès.
AKA the Father of Special Effects and sometimes referred to as the Cinemagician. This French filmmaker of the 1890's created the dissolve and stop motion effects. He was a stage magician and brought magic to the film world, where he starred in most of his own films. His most famous include "The Untamable Whiskers" and "A Trip to the Moon." Enjoy!

Life is Getting Better Everyday

So my hair is fixed thank God! I am not back to my blond self but I am a new strawberry blond that has been heavily complimented... I might have to consider this as a new color for me. The salon owner fixed me up and really fixed the cut! What do you think?

In other lands of my life:
I finished my literature review for Media and Society.
We are doing a major research study on the college lifestyle presented in film in comparison to the actual college life... Should be very interesting I will let you know more with this as it progresses! We are trying to make it to a national conference with our study.

OMG I ran the dishwasher haha it was getting bad but for some reason this year our lives are so hectic thankfully we all clean everything on Saturday morning!

Adventure of the weekend is: Six Flags Fright Fest!!
We are going on Saturday... I will take lots of pictures and show you all our fun!
